Basic information about juteJute is a bast (phloem) fibre made from the stalks of the Corchorus plant which belongs to the lime plants. It grows on the Indian Subcontinent, Bangladesh and India. Over 90% of it are produced there. The fibres are quite short and are processed bundlewise. Their quality mainly depends on the stability of the plant glue. The fibre is sensitive to moisture and acids and has a distinct smell of its own. It is very reasonable in price and is mainly used for fitted carpets, sacks, handicrafts and wall decoration.
