The heart of Italian textile craftsmanship beats in Prato, near Florence. Drab grey warehouses stand in striking contrast to the treasures they hold-treasures that have shaped the worldwide reputation of Italian fabrics. We visited them ourselves and selected the most beautiful gems from shelves stretching for kilometres. Their quality and beauty arise from sophisticated designs and colours, from the artistry and precision of their construction, and from exclusive yarns often presented in unusual blends or enriched with precious fibres. Most of these fabrics originate from Italian mills, though producers from England, Ireland and Japan are also occasionally represented.
